Week 1

Welcome to the program!

Entrepreneurs are the rock stars of the business world.  They are the people featured on the covers of magazines and are the people who make the Forbes list of the world’s most wealthy people.  They are studied, people hang on their every word, and their houses are featured in magazines to show what is possible with design and technology.

Among these rock stars, Richard Branson’s star shines brightest — with his larger than life personality, crazy antics and stunts, and wild projects, he truly lives the life of a rock star.

However, it is not wealth or fame, or even Branson’s antics that make Entrepreneurs rock stars.

Entrepreneurs take the same kinds of risks that are necessary to become a rock star.  Think about it: in order to “make it” in the music industry, you not only have to be able to play your instrument (deliver a good), you also have to portray an image (marketing) and appeal to a large number of people (large market).  Of course, being able to deliver on all of that is simply not enough.  A huge amount of hard work is necessary in order to make sure that the right people know that you can deliver.

For every successful rock star, there are hundreds (perhaps even thousands) who never “made it.”  Some are just as talented as any other group that has a big record contract, but they did not have the tenacity and drive — the single-minded intentionality of purpose — to race towards their goals in the face of every adversity.  Yet, this is exactly what every successful entrepreneur does on a daily basis.  This is why entrepreneurs are the rock stars of business.  This is why people study them, why they are on the covers of magazines, and why they make huge fortunes.

You may have one business fail, or a hundred businesses.  It doesn’t matter!  When you are feeling down, or frustrated, come back here and reread this — remind yourself that you are a rock star paying your dues.  Given enough time, you will succeed!

Getting Your Mind Right!

Once you finish reading the text for this week, come up with a list of possible businesses that you could start, given your strengths, abilities, and financial resources.
